Susie Barker, MA

Ms. Suzanne (Susie) Barker has her master’s degree (M.A.) in Counseling Psychology from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and is working on her doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology (Psy.D.) from the same institution (expected graduation 2023). She has a focus working with children, adolescents, and young adults in both past work and clinical training experiences. Settings include private practice, in-home intensive work, elementary schools, college counseling, and community mental health organizations. Susie works from a developmental perspective and tends towards a cognitive behavioral framework, although she recognizes that as all individuals are different, so too might be their therapeutic need, and is flexible in her approach to find what works best with each person on their therapy journey. She has specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, sand tray and play therapies. She was a founding member of the psychology honor society with Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and has acted in leadership roles within the organization. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, including the Clinical Child and Adolescent Division, the Developmental division, the Counseling Psychology division, and the Trauma division. She is also a member of the Association for Play Therapy and the Minnesota Psychology Association. Susie completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Business (minor) at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska where she grew up until middle school. She lived in Kansas City before moving to the Twin Cities.
 
In her free time, Susie enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is currently working on her dissertation and teaching a graduate level course on psychology for teachers getting their master’s degrees in Education. Susie lives in Saint Paul with her two fuzzy felines, Gracie and Tisha (who is a COVID kitten).
 
Susie is a pre-licensed clinician. She is currently working under the license of supervisor Dr. Rebecca Murphy.
